National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Mayor and City Council of College Park proclaim October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and urge all women and their families to increase their knowledge about breast cancer and join the fight to eradicate this disease.
The City is Hiring!
The City is seeking a part-time Contract Secretary to attend, record, and prepare minutes for evening Advisory Board meetings. This position requires a reliable person with strong grammar and secretarial skills to prepare a summary of the proceedings, make approved revisions, and provide a final set of minutes in a timely manner. This assignment does not require word-for-word reporting. Meetings are currently being conducted via Zoom or in person at public facilities in College Park on weekday evenings.
Contract rate is $22.00 per hour, with a guaranteed minimum of two hours per meeting, plus payment for preparation of minutes at $11.00 per half-hour. We estimate six to twelve hours per month to start, depending upon board assignments. Advisory Board Volunteers Wanted
Serve your community, lend your talents, and meet your neighbors by applying to serve on a City Advisory Board! The following are in need of volunteers:
- Animal Welfare Committee (Districts 2 and 4) Individuals interested in serving on the Animal Welfare Committee should have interest and expertise in animal care and animal rescue. This committee addresses issues related to domestic and wild animals in the City of College Park and works with the City Animal Control Officer to promote and educate the public about animal welfare.
- Committee for a Better Environment (Districts 1 and 4) Individuals interested in serving on the Community for a Better Environment should have an interest in sustainability and environmental advocacy.
- Education Advisory Committee (Districts 2 and 3) Individuals interested in serving on the Education Advisory Committee will support, strengthen and promote the schools that College Park students attend.
- Ethics Commission (District 2) The Ethics Commission is established under Chapter 38 of the Code of the City of College Park. Individuals interested in serving on the City’s Ethics Commission will work to promote the ethical standards set forth in the City Code.
- Recreation Board (Districts 2 and 3) The Recreation Board is becoming the City Events Advisory Board. The City Events Advisory Board recommends, advises, and assists City staff on budgeted events and recreational activities that meet the interests of the City’s diverse community of residents and attract visitors to the City. Individuals interested in serving on this board should have interest and expertise in entertainment, recreation, social activities, community goals and needs, and community-building.
- Restorative Justice Committee (Two Vacancies) The RJC will recommend concrete restorative actions to the Mayor and Council to redress the harms impacting current and past African American residents and their descendants. Elements of the restorative justice process may include discovering and memorializing the truth of governmental actions impacting the City’s African American community, understanding the harm done, and providing opportunities for healing.
- Seniors Committee (District 2) Individuals interested in serving on the College Park Seniors Committee should have an interest in senior advocacy, community building, networking and outreach.
- Tree and Landscape Board (1 Vacancy) Individuals interested in serving on the Tree and Landscape Board should have interest and knowledge of trees, landscaping and gardening, and the benefits they provide to urban infrastructure, as well as local ecological and environmental benefits provided to an urban community.
- Veterans Memorial Committee (Two Vacancies) Individuals interested in serving on the Veterans Memorial Committee will be involved in planning the City’s Veterans Day and Memorial Day events to honor our veterans.
