The City is planning to offer a new program to divert organic materials, that are not waste, out of our landfill.

According to the EPA, nearly 24% of trash that is collected contains food scraps that can be composted. Diverting food scraps from the trash will reduce harmful greenhouse gases emitted from organic decomposition in landfills, which contributes to climate change.

If your household currently receives curbside trash and recycling collection within the City of College Park, then you are eligible to participate in the new program; residential collections only.

Residents can register by filling out the online form here. Containers can be picked up at Public Works, Monday - Friday from 7:45am - 3:45pm. The start date and collection day have not yet been determined, but staff will reach out to each participant once this is known.

• Food scrap collection will become a component of curbside service for City residents; residents must opt-in to participate

• There will not be a fee for collection, but residents must contribute 50% of cost for collection container - all material must be placed in a cost-share container purchased through the City. Resident’s price for 12-gallon cart is $13.00; 5-gallon bucket is $9.00; and kitchen caddy is $5.00.
• Food scraps must be put in compostable bags, before placing in collection container - no plastic bags allowed

How Do I Sign Up?

Residents can sign up online and choose container(s). Participants are required to select either a 12-gallon wheeled cart, or a 5-gallon bucket. You can also choose to purchase a small kitchen pail to store food scraps inside your home. Must use only compostable bags, and place only accepted items in the container.
