Free Summer Parking

On May 16th, 2023, the City Council approved Consent Agenda Item No. 23-G-76, authorizing to allow free parking on summer weeknights after 5:00 p.m. and free all-day Saturday parking in the city’s downtown parking garage, from Saturday, May 27th to Saturday, August 12th. As always, parking at all metered locations downtown is free on Sundays.

City Speed Cameras

The City speed cameras on Rhode Island Avenue from Greenbelt Road to Paducah Road will now issue violations 24/7/365—previously these cameras issued violations Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am until 8:00 pm. There will be an initial warning period until June 30, 2023 for violations during the new enforcement hours only. Beginning on July 1, 2023, the City will issue speed camera violations with $40 fines 24/7/365 for vehicles traveling 12 or more miles per hour (MPH) above the posted speed limits on Rhode Island Avenue. With this change, all City speed cameras operate 24/7/365.

Effective July 3, 2023, the speed limit on Rhode Island Avenue between University Boulevard and Paducah Road is 30mph. Additionally, the City’s contractor will be starting construction later this month on intersection improvements, bicycle and pedestrian safety enhancements, and bus stop platforms on Rhode Island Avenue between University Boulevard and Muskogee Street. Please use caution in active work zones and remember that state law requires drivers to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.

Learn more about the City’s Speed Enforcement program by visiting www.collegeparkmd.gov/dps.

Speed Limit Reduction on Rhode Island Avenue

On June 13, 2023, City Council approved Action Item 23-G-95 to reduce the speed limit on Rhode Island Avenue. Effective Monday, July 3, 2023, the speed limit on Rhode Island Avenue between University Boulevard and Paducah Road will be reduced to 30MPH.
