May is Mental Health Awareness month. During this time, an emphasis is placed on fighting stigma, providing support, educating the public and advocating for policies that support people with mental illness and their families. Each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness. This has been especially true over the last year as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused increased stress and anxiety for all of us. The City’s Department of Youth, Family and Senior Services provides community outreach as well as family counseling for youth and families to enhance family functioning. Contact the Department at 240.487.3550 or at families@collegeparkmd.gov for any questions or for more information. The Department partners with Children’s Mental Health Matters, a Maryland Public Awareness Campaign and Prince George’s County to help bring attention to children’s mental health during May. Stay tuned to the City’s website and social for upcoming events and information during the entire month of May.
