Municipal Government Works Month

Did you know November is Municipal Government Works (MGW) Month?

Each year in November, cities and towns across the state of Maryland collectively celebrate the work of local governments by raising awareness around the programs and services provided by municipalities. While the Mayor and Council are elected by voters, City staff are hired to provide essential programs, services, and events to College Park residents. The City’s government is organized into multiple departments including the Department of Public Works (trash and recycling collections, tree programs, engineering, snow and ice removal, etc.), the Department of Public Services (Parking Management and Enforcement, Animal Welfare, Code Compliance and Enforcement, and more), the Department of Youth, Family, and Senior Services (Seniors Program, Clinical Services, etc.), the Department of Planning and Community Development (micromobility, Homeownership program, etc.), and Administration (Finance, Human Resources, City Clerk’s Office, Communications & Events, Economic Development, and IT). Each department reports to the City Manager, who is selected by the Mayor and Council to oversee the City’s daily operations. From trash and food scrap collection to youth counseling, seniors programming, City elections, and annual events like College Park Day, the City staff work to connect residents to the resources and services they want and need. This includes both new services like the Curbside Food Scrap Collection, or resuming of yearly services like Curbside Leaf Collection (starting this again November!). Learn more about City programs, services, and events by joining our e-news list at www.collegeparkmd.gov/cpconnect. By staying informed to what is happening in the City, residents can take advantage of the many opportunities and services offered by the City. Please help us spread the word by encouraging your friends and neighbors to subscribe or follow our social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and Nextdoor). Residents also have a direct line of communication to request services and report issues! Through the College Park Connect app, you can report any non-emergency concern or issue. Visit www.collegeparkmd.gov/tellus or search your device’s app store for “College Park Connect” to download the app. Residents can always call the City’s 24/7 hotline at 240-487-3588 to report non-emergency issues too. Please help us thank City staff and personnel for their work, this month and all year long!
