Golden (Age) Services
In our bustling City, the golden years aren't just a phase, they're a celebration of life! Check out the following resources available to College Park seniors.
THE CITY OF COLLEGE PARK SENIORS PROGRAM is part of the Youth, Family and Senior Services Department. The Seniors Program aids seniors in College Park with case management through supportive advocacy and navigation assistance with government entitlement programs. The Seniors Program also provides opportunities for social engagement, emotional support and transportation services. Case management services are provided for vulnerable seniors in need of additional support. Each service provided by our City Seniors Program staff promotes health and social quality of life while supporting seniors’ self-determination and autonomy. Social activities, trips and door-to-door transportation to essential appointments within eight miles of the City (inside Prince George’s County) are also available.
THE CITY OF COLLEGE PARK SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE promotes and supports successful aging in the City and serves in an advisory role to the Mayor and City Council. It supports the development and growth of programs to support City seniors such as: Neighbors Helping Neighbors (a volunteer organization to assist older residents with transportation, household chores and friendly visits); senior programs and activities through the Department of Youth, Family and Senior Services; Age-Friendly College Park; College Park Arts Exchange; Corridor Conversations (monthly education/information Zoom sessions); and Habitat for Humanity to help residents age in place. Additionally, they monitor legislation as it pertains to seniors and work with City staff on events, projects and communications. College Park is part of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly communities. The group working on implementing the Council approved Action Plan to make College Park a more livable community for everyone is composed of members of the Senior Advisory Committee and other resident stakeholders. Focus areas include the domains of housing, transportation, communication, social participation, health services and community support. If you have an interest in being involved with the Age-Friendly College Park subcommittee, contact the Department of Youth, family and Senior Services at 240-487-3550 or email livablecommunity@collegeparkmd.gov. For more information and to view the Action Plan visit www.collegeparkmd.gov/LivableCommunity.
